Breathwork

Breathwork is an umbrella term. It is a powerful modality to release trapped emotions, grief and trauma. Most of us breathe dysfunctionally. Breathwork is experiential and different for everybody. Breathwork has commonly been called therapy without words. Our mind blocks trauma but our bodies always remember. Breathwork can help us release things physically and energetically. I offer 1:1 sessions, group sessions and am introducing the Breathwork membership!Breathwork is cost effective and offers immediate benefits.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a treatment technique used to help heal trauma, grief and other distressing experiences. It is evidenced based and has given many people incredible results and healing. I offer trauma intensives which is anywhere from 90 minutes to 8 hours of trauma therapy in a day. This is beneficial because there is quicker relief from  symptoms.

The benefit of a therapy intensive is that you can do a lot of work in a short amount of time. With traditional, weekly therapy you see the therapist for 50 minutes each week. It can take time to get "doing the work" and then you have to wait until the following week to continue what you are working on. A therapy intensive is like the Disney fast pass in that it offers accelerated therapy. It is several hours of intentional time and therapy processing.

ABOUT KIRSTEN

My Practice

My current niche is working with high performing adults who have been traumatized and desire to use therapy as an avenue for healing. The clients who I see that have been traumatized have usually experienced childhood trauma, they have experienced sexual assault or they have been traumatized in romantic relationships. There are various other reasons that clients will seek me out for trauma therapy.  I utilize EMDR, IFS and somatic therapies as my modalities in therapy which are evidence based modalities for trauma.  I consider my approach as a therapist to be holistic.

I offer group therapy and my specialty I have named Repattern. This is a group for women and men who have become aware of a relationship pattern within themselves that they desire to change. The pattern is typically that they continue to become involved with people who display narcissism, are abusive, have addictive patterns or who are not faithful. Through the group dynamic clients are able to become more aware of their patterns, thought processes and the impact that their relationships have had on them. This awareness contributes to positive changes in their behavior and they may start to use more discernment in their choices. I have also observed that the group experience helps clients with confidence in that they do not tolerate things in relationships that they may have tolerated prior.

I also offer Breath work classes that are a powerful healing modality to process and release grief, trauma and trapped emotions.

After a traumatic event, at a young age, I saw a play therapist.  Shortly after that I always knew that was what I wanted to do as a career. I did not have the words for it at the time but it was a soul calling.  I’ve always been a deep feeler and extremely empathetic which have served me in my work as a therapist. My business name, "anahata" means heart chakra. I put my heart and soul into the sacred work I do with my clients.

My initial training in graduate school was in Child Centered Play Therapy. Since then I have become trained in other modalities and I’ve had different career experiences to enhance my skill set as a therapist and broaden who I work with.

Why book an intensive?

I offer several different kinds of intensives. Intensives are like accelerated therapy. You would do in an intensive what you would do in the standard weekly, 60 minute session but with an intensive you can get relief much faster. An analogy to explain an intensive would be like getting the Disney fast pass or getting an abscess removed during surgery. An intensive is a great option for an individual or couple who needs relief more quickly. Some examples of why people seek intensives would be if there was an affair in a relationship or if trauma symptoms are deeply impacting day to day things. A person with a trauma history who has active symptoms might notice increased anxiety, disturbances in sleep, rumination or snapping at their children or partner more easily. A person can also do an intensive for more mild symptoms such as anxiety or depression. An intensive is a great option for busy professionals or busy people in general who find it hard to find time for weekly therapy as this can take up to two hours weekly between the appointment and drive time, sometimes more! An intensive is an intentional space where there is time set aside for the deep work. When we process emotions, trauma and grief we are therefore more productive in other areas such an work and parenting. Offering intensives to employees would be a great option for an employer. The relief you would be offering an employee in an intensive could lead to more innovation, creativity and productivity.
